CONSULTANCY

Fusion Marine
have the capability to offer the full spectrum of advisory services
from site assessment to project design and planning, execution and
management. This is organised through a network of experts in the
various relevant disciplines; these experts are located in strategic
parts of the world and their experiences cover a very wide range of
species and systems. The work of these experts is co-ordinated by
the company's permanent technical staff and their international aquaculture
consultant Professor Carmelo Agius.
Cage culture
of finfish in the Mediterranean has expanded rapidly in the last twenty
years as commercial quantities of juvenile sea bass and sea bream
have become available year-round. The early cages consisted of galvanised
iron pipe or wood and were installed in sheltered waters. Competition
from other coastal users and the search for better quality water has
necessitated the slow but steady replacement of such systems by more
robust offshore cages. Fusion Marine have been at the forefront of
this technology with their Polyethylene products. The experience gained
in the salmon industry over a number of years has been successfully
adapted to the Mediterranean situation, resulting in the most cost-effective
and reliable systems available on the market.
The traditional wooden cage systems are fast being replaced by modern
offshore systems. Fusion Marine have installed numerous offshore cages
along the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, both for the Fisheries Department
and for the larger private companies.
Turkish fish
farmers in the Black Sea have been rearing trout and sea bass in
traditional wooden cages for a long time. Fusion Marine have been
involved in the modernisation of these systems as well as advising
on improved management strategies.
Fusion Marine cages
have proven themselves robust even under the most severe conditions
encountered on the North African coast of the Mediterranean. Oceanflex
70-metre circumference cages launched last year have passed the test
of a full winter with flying colours. This represented a typical full
turnkey project, inclusive of project management, undertaken by the
company.
We've also undertaken
a number of projects in the Middle East region particularly in the
Gulf region. These have included pre- and full feasibility studies,
site assessment, and installation of experimental as well as commercial
projects.
