British Waterways orders Nordic Seahunter
The Nordic Seahunter is a rotationally moulded plastic craft that can be linked together with other units to create a larger working platform. The craft can work as a single unit, or in multiple units linked together to form a powered barge, pontoon or storage raft.
According to British Waterways chief engineer Ian Macleod, the versatile design of Nordic Seahunter fitted perfectly with the diverse range of maintenance work that the craft will be expected to carry out on the Caledonian Canal.
“It is an excellent multi-purpose boat that offers a good stable working platform. The boat will be used on a number of maintenance tasks such as working under bridges and along embankments. A big attraction are the high handrails, which greatly aids operator safety.
“The storage well in the craft is also particularly useful for holding and deploying oil spill containment booms.”
Each 5.6m x 2m double-hulled unit can be equipped with an outboard motor and different types of ladders, railings and other accessories and formats. It has several fastening holes in its hull and can carry up to 3,700kg of payload.
Iain Forbes of Fusion Marine said: “It has been a pleasure dealing with British Waterways and in particular Ian MacLeod in coming up with a craft so suitable for their particular requirements.
“The Nordic Seahunter is adaptable and versatile, and has great potential in the marine platform/boat marketplace.”
